June 11, 2012 - Dr. Floyd's clinic move makes way for new urologists
Jun 11, 2012
by
Marc Strode, CEO
Folks,
Last week, Dr. Floyd's orthopedic clinic which sat adjacent to the emergency room, relocated to our building across Bedell where he joins Dr. Lindsey and our newest primary care physician, Dr. Charles Rigney. This is also the location right now of our urgent care center.
Once we acquired this building from Dr. Lindsey, we invested in the upgrades we needed to get the x-ray machine that came with the purchase up and running. Once that was working, it paved the way to further consolidate our physicians who are part of Amistad Medical Professionals. Before, there were at least 2 flaws around Dr. Floyd's clinic location. First, his waiting room was shared with the emergency department. I think that is less than ideal. Second, without x-ray services in the clinic, his orthopedic patients had to leave the clinic, register at the hospital, and go to radiology for x-rays, where they might have to get in line behind the ED or inpatients. This new location is more of an office setting where within weeks patients will have one-stop shopping--all with VVRMC. The x-ray is up and working, and we are about to add lab services to the clinics across the street.
With Dr. Floyd moving out, it creates space for our visiting urologists who start at VVRMC this Friday. Dr. Nelson will be the first, and he will be here for a week. Then we will rotate through 3 others--all who are flight surgeons out of El Paso. The rotation will culminate with a 8-week assignment by Dr. Sebesta to start in August. This rotation gives us 15 weeks of solid urology coverage at VVRMC for our community. After this first cycle, we will evaluate its merits and decide if we want to sign up again until we find our permanent urologist. The visiting urologists will office out of Dr. Floyd's old clinic space.
Long-term, we would like to return this space to the emergency room to expand beds or develop a holding area to help with throughput and flow and to accomidate more growth as the demand is there.
Again, a lot of moving parts here with several people moving around and more new faces. The visiting urologists will hold clinic and resume surgical procedures immediately. If you have any questions about these moves, please ask. All of this is in an effort to improve access, quality and service so that we can keep more healthcare in Del Rio. I appreciate your support and patience through this latest wave of changes.
Keep the Spirit,
Marc
