June 11, 2012 - VVRMC to acquire building

Jun 11, 2012 by Marc Strode, CEO
Folks,
In early July, the Val Verde Hospital District intends to close on a piece of property adjacent to our campus.  The Visiting Nurses of Del Rio building, which sits just outside the old main entrance of the hospital, went up for sale about a month ago.  This acquisition makes sense given how close the building is to us.  It practically sits on our campus.  It is a relatively new building and probably one of the nicest finished out medical office spaces in Del Rio--if not the nicest.

We are greatful to have a Corporate Board and Hospital District Board which are so supportive and were able to move extremely quickly to set this deal up.  I've seen these types of transactions draw out for months, even years, but the Board shares our vision and has the insight to get the deal done so that we can move our strategic agendas forward.

Once the deal is done, it is our intention to use the space primarily for doctor offices.  As Amistad Medical Professionals continues to add providers, we need the space.  Late last week, we moved Dr. Floyd across the street to join Dr. Lindsey.  Also last week, Dr. Charles Rigney joined the team as our newest primary care physician.  With those three doctors officing out of that clinic plus our mid-levels plus the urgent care clinic, we are all filled up in that building that we purchased from Dr. Lindsey in April.  If you haven't been over there in a while, we have begun to spruce it up in an effort to get it looking a bit more like our main campus.

Dr. Osorio, our full-time, hospital-based cardiologist has been a squatter in the respiratory therapy area since he started in March.  This space is hardly ideal for his needs, and it is likely that we will relocate him to this newest building.  Even when we do that, we will still have plenty of room for at least one other doctor in that suite should we find a urologist or ENT before our campus expansion.

Speaking of campus expansion, the purchase of this building does not interfere with our plans to construct a 2-3 story building on the land just south of the ED.  We continue with our plans on that project and look for a early 2013 construction start.  What we know at this point is that it looks like our urgent care center will go in the new building along with Drs. Rigney, Lindsey and Floyd.  We plan to offer outpatient imaging there, too.  Therapy services will move over and compliment our plans to develop a wellness and fitness center which we think will give us the chance to offer new programs and services to our community.

A lot of moving parts here, so if you have any questions about what is going on around you, as always do not hesitate to ask one of us.  We continue to grow and change and adjust to meet the healthcare needs of the community in an effort to keep more healthcare right here in Del Rio.  All of these moving parts are aimed at exactly that.  Access.  Quality.  Service.  Those are the big 3 buzz words right now!!!

Keep the Spirit,
Marc
