April 19, 2012 - VVRMC purchases Dr. Lindsey's building
Apr 19, 2012
by
Marc Strode, CEO
Folks,
I want everyone to know about a project we have been working on long and hard for nearly a year. That is to complete the acquisition of Dr. Lindsey's building just up the street from us. For a year now, we have been leasing the space. We were able to agree to terms and effective this week now own the building. So why did we do this? For one, we already operate Val Verde Health Clinic and Amistad Medical Professionals out of this space. Both of these clinics are very much ours and very important to our growth strategies. When you can afford to buy, why rent? So we will save a good bit of money on the rental payments over time. More importantly, the building figures into our long-range planning. When we construct the Medical Office Building on campus, both of these servies will move to the new building. This will leave us with 6,600 square feet of space, which while empty we will remodel and get ready for what we intend to move in. Right now, the leading prospective tenant is our EMS services and EMS Academy. Both of these related services are high-profile and flagship service lines for VVRMC. They will have adequate space to function out of and will be able to hang their shingle in a very visible, prominent location still centrally located in the city. This is not in stone yet, but it's a pretty good bet. We will be working w/ Ram and Susie on all the logistics and design to make sure that everything is how the staffs need it to work when they get over there.
In the meantime, we are fixing the leaky roof this week as well as some other electrical repairs that need to be done immediately. We also have set some money aside for some quick renovation and cosmetics as we'll try to bring the building as close as we can to our new standard on the main campus. Dr. Ira Floyd, Amistad's orthopedic surgeon, will be moving over to the clinic ASAP. We have invested in the x-ray equipment over there. Now patients will have one-stop shopping for doctor visit and ancillaries. No longer two registrations and that will be a patient pleaser. In June, Dr. Charles Rigney, our newest member of the medical staff soon-to-be, will also set up shop and start his practice in that location.
Remember, in about 18 months, these doctors along w/ our mid-levels and Dr. Lindsey will move into the new building.
And for those of you wondering, TL wouldn't dare sell us the Moose or the Shark....those are still his!!
We'll keep you posted as more events around this exciting news develops.
Keep the Spirit,
Marc
