Blog Blitz - Part 2 of 6
Feb 16, 2012
by
Marc Strode, CEO
Folks,
I'm back! So we've got a big thing going on down in the Emergency Room working to enhance our service, throughput and overall care in that area. You've heard me say before that effort is not just limited to the nurses and other professionals who work within those 4 walls. And one of the clinical ancillary departments that the ED depends the most on is stepping up to the table to lend a hand to make the service better and faster. We will shortly be adding more point of care testing in the ED. This is a significant capital investment and will require even more investment in resource around function and quality control. In the end once we have I Stat up and running later this Spring, there are many of the basic diagnostic lab tests that will be able to be run right there in the ED literally in 1-2 minutes, yielding a result the doctor can use to make a decision. Compare this to the same test that today, based on process and technology, takes 15, 30 or even 45 minutes total time to get to the same point. Many, many thanks to Wayne and Letty and their respective teams in the ED and Lab for coming together and working on this important project.
Once we have some comparative statistics, we'll be sure to report out how the lab turn around times will have dropped significantly, ultimately reducing the amount of time the patient has to stay in the ED.
Keep the Spirit,
Marc
