February 29, 2012 - Family

Feb 29, 2012 by Marc Strode, CEO

Folks,
It's always tough to deal with loss.  Our hearts are heavy for Hector and his family as they deal with the loss of his father.  However, when you have a strong secondary family at the hospital, it helps with the grieving process I think.

In this case, our family here played an integral part in the recent events the past couple of weeks.  I want to pass along to you a very nice note I received earlier this week from Hector.  To everyone involved, I too have great appreciation for what you do for all of our patients.  Thanks Hector for taking the time to write and bring forward the excellent work we do here at VVRMC on behalf of our patients.

I would like to start by thanking everyone in V.V.R.M.C. for all the Prayer's, support, and love that my family and I received during these last 3 weeks.  My family and I are greatly appreciative and indebted for all the respect and compassionate affection that everyone in the Hospital gave us.  From the start, of what seems like a nightmare, my Father came in to the E.D. and didn't have to wait at all.  Rebeca was his Nurse, and she did a great job at demonstrating skillful Nursing and also always kept us informed.  My Father was admitted to Med Surg where once again all of the Nurses caring for my Dad, were compassionate & skillfully efficient.  Viviana's compassionate professionalism helped keep my Mother calm and at ease because of the care given to my Father, she, Aracelly, and Darcy (at night) were also exemplary in communicating to the Physicians and to us, the family, of any changes.  I know that their knowledgeable & skillful Nursing helped influenced everything and everyone in the most positive way, this I feel strongly about.  However, everyone in Med Surg that took care of my Dad, showed it in the most tender & compassionate way possible!

We found out that we had to go to another facility for a higher level of care, of to Main Methodist we were transferred.  During our 2 weeks stay, lots of people from our hospital were praying, calling, visiting and just showing the most sincere, support  to my family and me.  Towards the end of these difficult and painful 2 weeks, my Mother had to make the decision of honoring my Father's wishes, and we had to look into the Hospice Prorgam.  After careful consideration, we decided to bring him back home.  Bonnie, was instrumental during this process and transition.  She would call me directly to my cell phone, to answer my questions.  When we arrived she treated my Father & family with the kindness and respect.  She immediately started sharing her knowledge to us about the process that we were about to go thru, while maintaining a high level of compassion.  The Staff on Med Surg that weekend provided the most comfortable & compassionate environment for my Father & family.  Prior to this, I only thought I knew what the Hospice Program was all about.

I would like to thank each of the Departments that cared for my Father, and each of the Departments that showed support to my family and me!  I would like to thank each employee that kept us in their prayers, and showed support.  Thank-You so much employee's of V.V.R.M.C. once again for all the support and love given to my family & me during this time.  It cannot be said that this Hospital does not take care of their own!
