Folks,
OK.....last one today....carpel tunnel setting in. Here is Doin' Right By Del Rio Part II from the weekend. Gosh, I just love these stories coming in! Keep'em coming.
Dennis Hebner, our likable Director of Materials Management, got a call from surgery Saturday during an add-on case. He was at the grocery store. Dr. Manning wanted a PIC line inserted on a patient Monday morning. He immediately knew upon receiving the request that we had an issue as we didn't carry what he wanted for this patient. So Dennis took the initiative to call our friends up Hwy 90 at Methodist. Methodist has a full-time PIC line team, and they stepped in saying it was no problem to get us what we needed, outside of figuring out how to get it to Del Rio!
Dennis is pretty quick on his feet, and his next call was to Ram Castro just to find out on a hunch if EMS might be in San Antonio on a run or possibly if they were going to be headed that way on Sunday if they could make a pit stop for a pick-up. As luck would have it, Reggie Flores and Danny Patino were headed back in Castroville when the call came in. Not leaving anything to chance that we might not be back in SA, they turned the ambulance around and headed back to Methodist. Done deal!
How cool is this. When I want a barometer of employee engagement and the true spirit of teamwork, I look no further than these types of deals. Reggie and Danny--great job pitching in. You made a difference in that patient's outcome on Monday. Dennis--way to critically think on you feet. The folks at Methodist were great as well. Great stuff!
Keep the Spirit,
Marc
