December 11, 2012 - Vista Verde Medical Complex under contract w/ VVHD

Dec 11, 2012 by Marc Strode, CEO
Folks,
I wanted everyone to know that our hospital district intends to purchase the Vista Verde Medical Clinic up the road from us.  The building is under contract, and the intention is to close on the property at the end of February.

We have the good fortune of working closely w/ both boards as leaders not only here at the hospital but in our community as well who want to see our services expand and have a passion to grow and continue to serve Del Rio and its surrounding efforts.  I am very pleased with this decision!

The building is being purchased with the expectation that some of the Shannon doctors might be joining Amistad Medical Professionals, although those details as to whom might be joining are not yet finalized.  Either way, we need space to expand our clinic for any of them as well as additional recruits.

Earlier this year the hospital district purchased the Visiting Nurses building, which we are holding for Dr. Frank Carpio (urologist) and his wife Dr. Melba Carpio (internal medicine)--a contract is out to Frank w/ another pending to his wife who also plans to practice fulltime in Del Rio.  We are week-to-week on those negotiations, and hope for a mid-2013 start for his fulltime urology practice.  This development locks down that building.  The Lindsey building is all full w/ Drs. Lindsey, Floyd, Rigney and our after-hours offering.

We have two other clinics in the hospital--the space adjacent to the ER which for now houses Dr. Box and Dr. Nawar (new cardiologist who started yesterday!).  The other space is shared with Respiratory Therapy/Sleep Lab and is where our part-time urologists, visiting San Angelo physicians, podiatry and Dr. T work out of when they are in town.

If this deal goes through on the building, we can function with whichever physicians come on board and grow some over there.

We do not anticipate anyone in the Lindsey building moving into this new building if the purchase goes through.

I do believe it is still the vision of your leadership team here as well as both Boards to develop our land South of the ER for a building that would consolidate all or most of these doctors on our immediate campus.  Our architect was in town just last Friday continuing to meet w/ us on this project.

In my opinion, there are two truisms at play right now:  1) we will only get better with our services and our quality, which over time more or more folks will continue pick up on, thus affording us the chance to take care of more patients locally and 2) Del Rio will organically keep growing.  If I'm right, we will continue to grow over the longterm and will need every bit of space we can scratch for!  This is a good thing for us and exciting for Del Rio and Val Verde County.

Your hard work, effort and dedication are making these projects possible.  I am sorry town halls got cancelled this month, but next month when they are back on we will discuss further this vision for our campus both short- and long-term!

Keep the Spirit,
Marc
