October 11, 2011 - Dr. Cadena gives a shout out
Oct 11, 2011
by
Mark Strode, CEO
There's not much better on a Monday than a member of your medical staff taking time out of their busy day to give me a call to share a story that stuck out in his mind that he was very grateful for how we handled a situation.
Made my day so I thought I'd share it w/ you.
The rock star in the middle of this is Orlando Espinoza who is one of our radiology clerks. Most of you know Orlando I suppose and probably won't be at all surprised how he handled himself on Friday.
The story goes that one of Cadena's patients was in the office at the end of the day--almost 5-and they were concerned about some of the patient's symptoms. So they called radiology to see if they could immediately get a CT. According to Dr. Cadena, without hesitation, without an appointment, at the end of the day, at the start of the weekend, Orlando said, "sure. have them come on over and we'll take care of them." So they did and we got her scanned.
The story doesn't end there. The CT was read by the radiologist and and Orlando saw the report. I think it was read by one of our off-site radiologists. Now Orlando is no doctor, but he took time to read the report as the story was told to me, saw something interesting in the report, and took it upon himself to get the report to the doctor's office before he left for the weekend.
As it turned out, there was something of significance on that report, and upon getting the results, the patient was sent to San Antonio to a higher level of care for immediate intervention Saturday morning. I think it was related to an aneurism.
Needless to say, Dr. Cadena was very thankful for the service and the effort Orlando and the team put forth. Great job and great way of handling a situation just as I would have expected. Could have been easy to push that appointment to Monday. Could have been easy to not get involved. But he cared and he did the right thing.
As Sid is with us all week training us on communication and service, I think the timing of this story is perfect. Orlando--thanks!
Keep the Spirit,
Marc
