January 16, 2012 - The Waiting Game

Jan 16, 2012 by Marc Strode, CEO
Folks,
I'm going to talk about "waiting" and it has nothing to do with the ED!

Right now as we speak, we are "waiting" on a supply item which is on back order so that we can print our ID badges.  This has been frustrating as it's never good to be in this position but especially right when we are ready to make a push to get everyone's badge updated and offer up the double-sided badges so that your bright and shiny picture is always facing out.  We ordered routinely like we always do, and that was almost a month ago.  Back order.  I know Dennis and team are working to get the ink in so that it is business as usual.  In the meantime, we are having to issue temporary, paper badges for many of our new hires this month.  So if you see those, they are legit.  And now you know the reason why.

Right now, there is a patient "waiting" on a private room.  During this time of construction, we've been forced back into the semi-private business on our med/surg unit.  There are a few last-minute things to do w/ the newly renovated rooms (rooms are about 95% complete...enough to put patients back in them), and we will make it happen to get those rooms back on service this week and relieve ourselves of the room sharing.

Right now, someone is circling our parking lot, "waiting" for a space to open.  We are working on a parking plan which will also involve taking down all the many, various metal signs that are an eyesore on our campus.  More to come on that.  In the meantime, we are going to begin in the morning (January 17) enforcing compliance with the patient parking for Therapy/Rehabilitation in the front of the old entrance.  Security will be patrolling, particularly at shift change, and cars without the patient-issued stickers will be ticketed.  Our parking policy will be enforced for employees parking in this area.  So this is fair warning...don't park there!  In fact, if you wear the VVRMC badge, don't park anywhere in front of the old main entrance, and certainly don't park right in front of the main entrance of the hospital.  We are working toward better designating physician, patient and employee parking, and hope to have a plan out in the coming weeks.  In the mean time, get into good practice and think about our patients and visitors before ourselves!

Finally, I'm "waiting" for this respiratory crud to rid itself of me.  No fun being under the weather.

(Even so,) Keep the spirit,
Marc
