April 27, 2012 - Remembering Dr. Gutierrez

Apr 27, 2012 by Marc Strode, CEO
Folks,
Our hearts are heavy this week as we mourn the loss of Dr. Alfredo Gutierrez, Jr. who passed away earlier this week.  Dr. Gutierrez was 80 years old and had been on staff here at VVRMC since 1961.  His medical career in Del Rio spanned over 50 years.  Three times he was the chief of staff and during his tenure here he lent his medical staff leadership to numerous committees and hospital initiatives.  He delivered over 5,000 babies.  It goes without saying that his impact on VVRMC has been profound.

Most know that outside these walls, Dr. Gutierrez was extremely influential in the community, most notably having served as Mayor of our city for 20 years.

Since his death we have been flying our flags at half-mast, and many of you have pinned to your scrubs a ribon and picture of Dr. G in an effort to honor him.

The visitation is planned for later today at 5pm at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 pm.

The mass of christian burial is planned for Saturday, April 28, at 1:30 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  From the funeral home and on their way to the church, Dr. Gutierrez will make one final pass by the hospital as his motorcade and family will detour through the old main entrance.  This will take place at approximately 1:00 pm.  Please plan on being outside the old front entrance of the building for one last goodbye.

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers this weekend.

Keep the Spirit,
Marc
