Hi Everyone!

I'm excited to start the Paragon blog to keep all informed on our implementation progress for our new system.

For starters let’s get some basic terminology down:
McKesson - the company we purchased our new system from
Paragon - the name of our new electronic medical record system we purchased from McKesson
Super Users - individual volunteers from each department who attend Paragon training classes and will build each department's application
Go-Live - the week we kill HMS and switch over to Paragon.  This will happen the week of 6/24/2013.
Live Database - the database where building is done and is an image of what the final product will be
Test Database - the database where the build is tested for functionality
Refresh - when a copy of the live database is pushed down to the test database.  When this happens, all existing data in the test database is lost.

The benefits of implementing a new system will allow us to make our processes more efficient within the hospital.   To help with this I’m going to be visiting all departments in the next few weeks to map out work flow, and while I’m doing this I want feedback on two questions:

  1. How can your job be more efficient?
  2. What would you change about other departments that you interact with?

As of now, only super users are allowed in the system.  If you are not a super user and would like a sneak peek, ask your department's super user(s) for a demo in the customer database to wet your appetite.

Next week we have two classes going on: medical records and microbiology.  If you see anyone from those two departments in the hall, be sure and cheer them on!  And lastly, below is a link to our real-time project plan so all can see our progress.
