November 4, 2011 - Revised VVRMC Organizational Chart

Nov 04, 2011 by Marc Strode, CEO

Folks,
I want to share with you some news that will impact just about everyone on the team. I've been here now for 5 months, which has been enough time to get a really good feel for the place and our team members, particularly our leaders. I also have a good idea of where we are headed, and with input from your Senior Management team, medical staff and Board I want to present to you a new organizational chart that I think better aligns us with our strategic objectives.

The org chart itself is available to you from your department director this afternoon. We will review it next week at our quarterly Town Hall meeting, where I'll have the chance to sort of talk through the changes and the thought process behind some of the moves.

Here are some of the highlights:

___________________________________________________________________

Vicky Barnthouse - Vicky is still our CNO, but we are expanding her role to include our clinical ancillary departments such as Therapy Services, Lab, Pharmacy and Radiology.

Within Vicky's pod, we will be posting two new positions: Senior Director of Ancillary Services, which will oversee the clinical ancillary departments and a Project Manager position to help with the many initiatives we have at play within nursing.

We have also moved anesthesia services within the realm of surgical services. Becky Alexander, Manager of Anesthesia Services will now report directly to Mary Sartor, Director of Surgical Services.

Kathy Fletcher, Director of Risk Management and our Ethics & Compliance Officer will now report directly to Vicky.

Shirley Adriance, Jureza Parrack and Falan Durbin, all previously managers, are now titled as Directors of their respective areas (Quality, Education and Critical Care). These three departments are critical to VVRMC's success, and the confidence the organization has in these three is reflected by the title changes.

Mari Acosta will continue to provide administrative support to me but will also work to do the same with Vicky moving forward.
__________________________________________________________________

John Furman - John's role is also expanding and his title is changing to reflect his new responsibilities. As Vice President of Operations, John will provide leadership for our support services while still assuming responsibilities for human resources, EMS and EMS academy.

Brett Chapman will report directly to John in his new role as Senior Director of Support Services. Brett, who has been providing support to biomed and security during this interim period, will lead these areas permanently while maintaining his other areas to include construction management, plant operations and housekeeping.

Jed Johnson, Director of Food & Nutritional Services (FANS) will now report directly to John.
___________________________________________________________________

Francine Pina - In recognition of the importance of VVRMC's role in the Del Rio and Val Verde County communities, we have named Francine as our Vice President of Community Service & Hospitality. Francine will also join Vicky, John, Forrest and I to round out your Senior Management Team. Francine will take on additional responsibilities to include providing oversight and support to our pastoral care department, patient advocacy efforts, volunteer auxiliary as well as our PBX and greeter staffs.

Marvin Wood, Director of Pastoral Care and Cookie Gulick, Director of Patient Advocacy/Volunteer Auxiliary will both report directly to Francine.

Francine will also help lead our efforts around customer service training as we continue to work closely with Sidney Hurlbert. She will play a key role to facilitate a permanent plan for the enhancement of our patient satisfaction scores and customer perception in the community.

Cheryl Stiles, who has been providing administrative support to Vicky, will move to Francine's pod and provide administrative support in these areas.
__________________________________________________________________

Forrest Whichard - Forrest will continue to look to Ron Walton, Senior Director of Revenue Cycle, to move VVRMC in the right direction and build upon the successes realized the past couple of years in this area. Ron's new title reflects the fact that he will now provide leadership and support to case management and health information management (medical records). In addition, as part of our revenue cycle we intend to embark on a centralized scheduling initiative over the next year which Ron and his team will coordinate those efforts.

Ninfa Price, Director of Case Management and Betty Clark, Director of HIM will report directly to Ron. Dora Castro's new title is Director of the Business Office.

Adrian Larson will report directly to Forrest in his new role as Senior Director of Outpatient Services. Adrian will assume responsibility for our hospice services and psychiatric services (Heritage) while still leading the charge for our clinic initiatives. Bonnie Henderson, Director of Hospice and Jaime Ortiz, Director of Heritage will now report directly to Adrian.
___________________________________________________________________

We decided not to fill the COO position at this time. After peer interviewing several strong candidates, I thought that we had a lot of talent in the organization already that was ready for more responsibility and wanted to further develop their careers at VVRMC. So a lot of what I have described and what is illustrated on the new organizational chart was catalyzed by this, but it's really just an effort to line up our areas with the right leaders and let folks get to work.

It was apparent to me early on that there was no need for a major overhaul at VVRMC when I arrived here. The talent in this organization is as good as or better than the leaders I've worked alongside at larger hospitals in the Methodist system or up in the DFW market.

To those of you who have received promotions, congratulations. They are all well-deserved. Remember though no matter what your title is, never lose sight of what we are here to do and that is take care of patients safely and with outstanding service in mind. Stay humble and true to your staff. Love'em, support'em, advocate for them, hold'em accountable and execute.

We have so much momentum right now. I know that these changes will help position VVRMC well into a bright future.

Keep the Spirit,
Marc
