December 20, 2012 - Security no longer chauffers

Dec 20, 2012 by Marc Strode, CEO
Folks,
For many years at VVRMC it's been a longstanding practice for one of our fine security officers to make a quick trip to run someone to the airport or to their house.  We've done this out of the spirit of service, but last weekend it became a risky proposition.  Our only security officer was on one of these brief excursions as a favor to one of our team members, and unfortunately the exact moment he was off campus we had a situation in the ER where we really needed him.  This jepordizes everyone's safety.  Our officers are trained well by Rudy and experienced in handling our Code Green occurances.

Once we realized this, the team immediately looked at our policy Monday morning and realized we had not been following it.  I wanted you to know we were aware of this this week.  Effective 4 days ago, security officers are not to leave the campus while on shift for any reason without prior authorization from the Administrator on-call.  I can not sit here and think right now of a reason that the AOC would deploy a security officer away from his/her primary duties, so the likelihood of that happening is next to none.

We have your safety in mind.  It is important to me that you know we have made this change, and that it is already hardwired.  We are also in the process of installing keypads at key entry points around the ED as well as Women's Services also for added security.

Keep the Spirit,
Marc
