October 8, 2012 - Happy Columbus Day!

Oct 08, 2012 by Marc Strode, CEO

Folks,
Fall is in the air and Columbus has made his discovery! Hope you had a great day and found something to do to keep the kids busy.

We are well on our way to another busy and active week at VVRMC. Everyone give Dr. K a big pat on the back for sticking around and working during his off week for the hospitalist program. We are in the process of onboarding Dr. Brown for the other rotor, but for the rest of the month it'll be the Dr. K show. Happy to have him on the team and will welcome Dr. Brown as he gets here in November to work hard to complete the strong rotation.

The ER is coming off an exceptional month of September that saw very high patient satisfaction coupled w/ fast turn around times. Best metrics in well over a year! Total team effort from support areas like lab, radiology, housekeeping, RT etc and of course the team on the ground in the department. We've also focused hard on getting patients out of the ED needing a bed and ICU and med/surg are doing their part as well as those times were lowest in quite sometime and continue a decreasing trend.

We are fast tracking our progress with the Telemedicine robot and are just about locked and loaded on both Cardiology and Behavioral Health. We hope to perform our first robot consult in the month of October. Vicky's leading the charge here and working hard to reap all the benefits this technology has for our community.

And this weekend--another great one in Del Rio! Outside of my family making history by attending the first ever live Roller Derby in Town Saturday night at the civic center, the highlight had to go to Andele Del Rio! Why? Because once again VVRMC led the way in community support for this worthy event that brings the town together to celebrate healthy living. Yours truly won the stroller-pushing division of the 5K (not really a division but I did notice Bo and me finished 1st among all the other "pushers")! I'm still sore......But what overwhelming support with all the booths and information on our services (we had the entire pavilion once again) plus the great support from EMS both w/ their trucks and the bike support out on the route. Lastly, the leader of the event was Marvin Wood, and it's fun to see Marvin at his best in that environment. It was a cool deal and great to see so many generously volunteering on a Saturday and everyone having so much fun!

Ya'll have a great week!

Keep the Spirit,
Marc
